about

Riga Motion Pictures Studio founded in 1948 is one of the oldest motion picture studios in the Northeastern Europe. In 2008 the Studio celebrated its 60th anniversary which marked the end of a long slowdown period and gave a new start to film production and participation in both, Latvian and foreign projects.

In the second half of 2009 spectators in Latvia were offered the new documentary of Riga Motion Pictures Studio „What Makes Man” which was a socially and culturally significant project. At present several new projects are being carried out. Some of them are: documentaries about Zigfrids Anna Meierovics, one of the outstanding Latvian politicians of the interwar period and about young men implementing the „Aerodium” project which, once started in Latvia, has already won international recognition.

Riga Motion Pictures Studio has also started cooperation with Latvian Academy of Culture by offering its students the possibility to turn their theoretical knowledge into real filmmaking.

Management and employees of Riga Motion Pictures Studio are always open to new projects keeping in mind the most important factor of the film industry – spectators, because without them even the finest artworks become useless.

During the Soviet period Riga Motion Pictures Studio served as the technical base for film production. Today the available modern equipment as well as the suitable premises makes Riga Motion Pictures Studio a perfect place for shooting films, TV shows, commercials as well as for implementing various audiovisual projects. Besides, we are always ready to cooperate with professionals from other countries. Co-production projects are welcome.
